Writing games is like riding a bicycle.. that's on fire.
Uh, we'll go for the former, methinks. [smile]

First off all, I wish myself an Almost-30K-Views. I was going to wait until it got there, but 29,978 is pretty darn close. Huzzah for me staying in the loop this long! [smile]

University - Workload
Boy oh boy, I'm up to my ears in assignments. [smile]
Basically I have three courses that I get assignments in (and 2 that I don't) on a weekly basis. Algebra takes 4-6 hours, CS takes 2-3 hours, and Calculus takes 5-7 hours. I'm sure you could now reasonably rank my skill level…

My post frequency has been nothing short of appauling. My apologies. But my workload has been most burdenous. I finally just finished my Calculus assignment for this week, and previous had to write my Algebra and CS assignments, too. Thank goodness for the impending weekend!

Too Busy for my Shirt?
Phew. University life is just plain busy. Since the brief development spree I had prior to my last post, I haven't even had a chance to really sit down and get working on the map editor. Today I only had an hour or two to myself, which I promptly spent playing a funfun session…

University - Karate/Exercise
What's a first week of classes/university without checking out the intro class for the Karate club?
Ouch.
It was definitely a good workout -- and I remember a few of the kicks/punches -- but I'm hurting still. Not being an active exercise'r, doing 100 crunches or so (of va…

Catching up!
Hey everyone. It's been far far too long since my last journal update -- gads, over a week! :-O -- but I'll try to keep this potentially lengthy post as to-the-point as I can. But no promises. There's just too much to ramble about. But nobody likes to hear me ramble. [smile]

3 more days!
I'm pretty pumped. In 3 more days I'll be moving over to residence at the University of Waterloo. Whoop, whoop! Frosh week is going to be nuts, and so is the free BBQ on Friday. [smile]
Oh, and "learning stuff" might be kind of neat too.

The Dumb Stuff
I am stupid. It's official. The papers are in, signed, and being sent via Purolator as we speak to the appropriate board members.
Any programmer here knows what it feels like to spend hours debugging a problem that ends up being comedically simple in the end. Right? I just pulled one, …

ONLINE!?
Finally the networking begins!
There's not yet a fancy interface for selecting one's alias, or some spiffy way of informing the game whether you'll be hosting a game or joining one, but for now it's just a simple no-hassle console app query. Ugly but effective. Nothing is in stone yet, but I…

Revelation! (sort of) (not really)
Today I realized something very important. Although it may seem argueably obvious: daily progress is important. Making a small step in your code every single day adds up. Of course it sounds like I'm stating the obvious, but a lot more people say it rather than do …

Today was generally a waste of time. The original plan this morning was to 'quickly' get fonts/text-drawing implemented, and then code in a simple GUI system to allow the future players to set some simple options (like Host or Client mode, or their alias) and general…

Well, for those of you who read the news in my previous post, you probably won't be shocked that I got very little sleep last night, and spent all of this morning with my stomach knotted and my heart clentched.

Video Card Woes
Well, I think I may have solved the issues that I've been having with my 'defective' video card. Turns out it needs a 350W power supply in its host computer. Oops. Mine is only.. 185W. The tech support guy says running it at that wattage could damage my computer. Eeek.

More movement forward made today. Not massive strides, but taking one step at a time on a daily basis definitely adds up quickly. Being used to RAD development with languages like Delphi and C#, C++ development feels much slower, but simultaneously has a more gratifying feel…

Yes, I'm still alive.
Yes, I'm working on a new project.
No, I'm not going to tell you.
Yes, I am aware that I'm being vague.
Yes, you should stay tuned to this journal for updates.
No, you shouldn't have eaten those glass shards.
Yes, you should leave a comment of a completely unrelated nature.

Well, the contest verdict has been reached. Admiral Overalls loses, and Bob The Fish makes the win, and the XBox 360. [sad]
On the bright side, Jeff did decide to send out $100 Best Buy gift certificates to all of the non-winners. So I guess that wasn't a whole month gone for nothing. :P

Well, the contest is finally done and over with. Well, almost. The judging will take place this week, and an XBox 360 will be sent to one lucky fellow who claims victory in the contest.
