Doors and giant ants.

Good evening Journal Land. A short but sweet entry tonight, mentioning a few recent developments on Cyberspawn. Most notable is the (final!) implementation of sliding doors, which are currently functioning on a 'mostly working' basis. I say mostly working because all doors can only slide open -- an obvious limitation -- and there is no interference detection, meaning the door will close fully even if there are other props (or the player!) in its path, leading to some weird behavior. Still, it's a start.

The other development is the beginnings of a model for a autonomous bot which will make appearances throughout the game, currently titled the, "Nant Bot". Whatever that means. This is only the first pass on it, so there is only a model to show thus far; textures and animations will come somewhere down the line. This is the general appearance I'd like, although I'm not sure if the in-game shot represents the scale I'd like for the bot; perhaps a little smaller and it'd look less intimidating. [grin]

As ever, more news as it develops. [smile]

Impressive! Just out of curiosity, what are you using for the modelling? I don't recognize the UI. That, and I am envious of your global illumination baked into the texture. I never did figure out how to do that properly with Maya.

Thanks for the kind words, Moe.

I have been using Blender for all of my modelling for Cyberspawn. The UI definitely takes some time and patience to get used to, but it's pretty much the only industry-strength 3D modelling app for Linux. [grin] It's also quite free, making it an attractive option for those of us not wishing to pirate software.

As for the ambient occlusion that it bakes on: yes. Yes I really do love that nice feature. It looks even better when it's blended in with an actual texture and pre-generated lighting, hehe. =)

Circle Strafe to win! I doubt that bot could rotate fast enough to take me out. Looks great man.
