How Freja came to be

We have talked about trauma and if we think facing it head on or living in ignorance is better. The discussion came from another game we played that delves into this exact topic. On one hand, dealing with bad memories can be tough and sad, but you can also learn and grow from it. On the other hand, pretending it never happened can save you from a lot of sorrow. Well, at least until the hidden memories manifests itself. This discussion is what created our Freja project.

A coping mechanism for the main character was engulfing herself in different video games and we figured it would make Freja more unique if we used this as a mechanic somehow. In Freja, you will play some games from the protagonist's past, and each game will represent a memory. As of now, this seem to have worked, as the resounding consensus from testers so far have all been the same, which is to say surprise and curiosity as to how arcade games fit into a psychological thriller. We're not sure at this time how many mini-games we will put in Freja. One challenge we're facing is to have a good balance between “the real world” in Freja, and the fictional. We don't want to take players out of the scary bits too often, while at the same time not keep them in the “real world” too long either so they get too used to it.

So where are we right now?
We have the basics all done and a decent part of the game overall complete, but we are still working on gameplay and some story blocks. A lot of ideas to piece together into one coherent game, essentially. But, we are getting there one step at a time.
