One of the things that I'm proud of is that my engine looks good no matter what resolution you play at. That's not true for most old-style games because you ended up taking pixel samples that were totally disjoint. I use mipmaps to properly blend things in the distance so you the distance is always smooth.

This is the default image for editing mode. That grass would be a pixelated mess in DOOM.
Same image at a gameplay resolution looks much crisper and details in the background come out more
