Week of Awesome II - Day 6

Today's post is a bit late, but worth the wait. I spent the day mostly finishing levels, adding sounds, some animation, a better user interface to find which toys are selected and a whole lot of bug fixing. I've also got my prototype ready! I'm not sure how playable it is, but hopefully it is somewhat alright because I won't be doing much tomorrow (I woke up with the flu this morning). So tell me what you think! You can play the web version here.

And here's a pic of the last level in the game (because there will probably be a game-breaking bug before anyone can get to it):

Tomorrow I'll probably be bug fixing (because I know you will find something) and I will try to reduce some texture sizes to reduce the overall file size (some textures are much larger than they need to be). Other than that, this prototype is pretty close to the final thing. I know people are going to find it hard to figure out what to do... but we'll see how far you get without any instructions tongue.png .

I know the game break bug, we have had 5 of them... we are trying to push everything together ( we were workign in seperate scenes to avoid rewrites ) and shit is just getting jacked up.... its a madhouse! Nice work though and it looks fun.

Well I was able to figure out what to do within a few minutes. I made it past the first level, but there might be a bug in the 2nd level? It said Jimmy gave everyone a headache, good job! But the level wasn't finished yet. Jimmy glitched a bit (with a red exclamation point over his head) and then it restarted.

Ok, I just tried a third time and got the "roast chicken" quest. It didn't glitch this time (I gave up after failing the roast chicken quest, because I need to get back to working on my game!).

I've been having trouble getting "single dynamic light with shadows" to work with lightmapping in Unity, but it looks like you've got it figured out!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm surprised you got as far as you did, to be honest.

Dynamic shadows in Unity (the free version) only works with directional lights, but you must set it to cast shadows first.

Good night Little Jimmy.

Some quick notes.

Managed to get Jimmy stuck behind the stove as the mic rolled behind it.

Managed to get Jimmy run off screen to the left of the toybox again the mic rolling in that direction.

Slight issues with toys into the toybox by Jimmy but managed it - difficulty highlighting the toys when covered by the toybox.

Nice puzzles, took me a few to realize the toys should not be expended in getting Jimmy into position. Well done :)

Wow, I'm surprised you got to the end. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'm actually aware of Jimmy going through walls and stuff... it's sort of a problem with Unity's kinematic collision. You can use tab to cycle through the objects if you can't see them (I probably should've mentioned it somewhere haha). I'm not sure if I'm healthy enough to fix all the problems, but thanks a lot for pointing them out for me!

Don't overexert yourself (unless you want to) - the game is playable and can be finished - I would probably add a small text on the menu screen along the lines of:

Tip: The Tab button can be used to select a toy.

Will you be able to do a downloadable version?

Yeah, I might do something simple like that. Much better than hours of fiddling around with other stuff ;)

Will you be able to do a downloadable version?

Yeah, I will definitely make a downloadable (windows) version... I'll try to have it out for my next post.
