WAV
From GDWiki
The WAVE file format is a subset of Microsoft's RIFF specification for the storage of multimedia files.
[edit] Container
A WAV file itself is nothing but a container following the RIFF specification. It can store a lot of different information. The most common use is to store PCM-encoded audio; however it is possible to store a wide range of compressed formats, as well as whole playlists, cue points, and other information, by using a wide range of loosely specified chunks.
