User talk:Ryan Clark
From GDWiki
Hi Ryan, sorry about the nonsensical edits, I work on mainly on the OrganicDesign wiki but do regular research on many other wiki's which recently include your one. One of our robots, Bender, consolidates all the changes to pages on many wiki's and merges them into the recent-changes of OrganicDesign, I was just testing that it was working. Thanks for an excellent wiki, its been a lot of help to the development of the p2p wiki we're working on :-) --Nad 23:09, 21 September 2006 (EDT)
How to you go about deleting a wiki page? I was reviewing the pages I have made on gpwiki an wanted to delete a page I created but no longer need. The page I want to delete is WikiPageTransferTest
- Deletions can only be made by wiki sysops. I've now deleted the page in question! Ryan Clark 01:00, 22 December 2005 (EST)
Yo Ryan, thanks a lot for the welcoming. Nice wiki you've got here, what made you decide to use a wiki? Nice site, but it'd be even better if you had a live irc chat to complement the various forums. Dessydes
Come join us in #gpwiki on FreeNode then! --me22
Ryan, I also love wikipedia, look at the article titled: qing gong Dessydes

Cool, I might end up in your uncle's class in a year, Ryan.

Say, Ryan, any idea why when I sign pages it comes out as pfeilspitze but my edits are attributed to me22? --pfeilspitze 14:10, 10 May 2006 (EDT)
- I did set my "nickname" to pfeilspitze, yes. I just think it's odd that it doesn't use it everywhere.--pfeilspitze 18:44, 10 May 2006 (EDT)

[edit] DekiWiki ?
Have you seen DekiWiki? Check out www.OpenGarden.org because MindTouch (www.mindtouch.com) is offering a MediaWiki upgrade program. DekiWiki is an interoperable (stores in XHTML) MediaWiki fork that includes a rich text (WYSIWYG) editor, hierarchies, page level permissions, clean interface, file attachment and indexing, image galleries, and more... It is, like MediaWiki, released under the Gnu General Public License Agreement and found at OpenGarden.org. Salutations!
Lol I didn't want to talk to the people. I just wanted to remove their userpages from the Special:Wantedpages list :P -- Commodore
[edit] Adding external links
Sorry for causing trouble - I had added a few links to external comprehensive sources which I thought would add to this wiki, instead of just leaving pages open. I also thought that copying content from wikipedia is not a good idea, and why write another article about something (e.g. Microsoft, or RTS, when there's already a good one available?
I see your point, and I'm fine with it.
Best regards - tobing
[edit] bmp
Hi Ryan,
I just discovered this wiki. I'm mostly on the nl.wiktionary, but in real life I am also a scientist and am writing some software to process synchrotron X-ray diffraction images. I use Visual Basic 2005 for it now although I am still on a steep learning curve with that. I was intrigued by VB:Tutorials:Bitmap File Format Information. I have 512x512 (or1024 or 20482 integers in an array (actually 3D, it's a series of shots up to a few hundred pictures) and want to visualize them in a black-and-white image (or faux-color). I tried to run the code you uploaded but it would not upgrade to 2005 for some reason. Can I use the definitions you give to write data away in bmp format?
Grateful for any pointers you can give Jcwf 00:52, 11 September 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Upgrading MediaWiki, installing extensions
Hey there Ryan, I want to pimp the Game Engines table visually, so it looks like for example this games list. Note two things:
- The columns have icons, which allow you to sort by column content alphabetically.
- The coloring of the yes/no cells and their text is controlled by templates (see the source)
It appears, that because of the gpwiki using an older version of MediaWiki, I can't use either of named functions. Please update the wiki software.
Also, for stylizing the tables, I need
/* Table styles */
.wikitable td {
background-color:#ffffff;
padding:3px;
}
.wikitable th {
background-color:#eeeeee;
padding:3px;
}
to be added to the MediaWiki:Monobook.css file, which can only be done by sysops here ATM. Otherwise I would have to add these styles to each and every cell of the table.
It also would be nice if you installed the Citing extension, which allows to easily create reference tags and a references list, like for example in this gamedev wiki list, where I told for each licensing and article count number a source link, which are combined at the end of the page at ==References==. --Qubodup 14:32, 30 January 2008 (EST)
[edit] New logo
You know.. when you look at it for three seconds, it looks like a swastika. --Qubodup 23:08, 1 April 2008 (CDT)
- Wow, trying much to get rid of the new logo? Don't worry, another one is in the works (shown on the forum). Boder 06:36, 2 April 2008 (CDT)
- Sorry, it was just inevitable to not see it for me. The German education system lets it's students have two years of national socialism-related history classes. --Qubodup 18:37, 4 April 2008 (CDT)
[edit] The name "GPWiki"
*Sight* couldn't you have let the GPWiki it's own identity? o_O. There's also the problem that there is already a wiki called GPWiki. It's obviously not relevant, but it is there. Why don't you let it have it's own name? This way other game programming communities from wiki.freegamedev.net/index.php/Links#Game_development_wikis this list might want to move/integrate on to this wiki. If you make it strictly GameDev.net-related, that could scare some people away. Putting a "THIS IS OURS" stamp on everything isn't very modern IMHO. Ok, don't take it too serious - just some idealistic views of mine, not really accusing you or the GameDev.net bosses of anything. By the way, is there any information on why the move (to GameDev.Net) happened? --Qubodup 18:37, 4 April 2008 (CDT)
[edit] Spam filter
The current spam filter is unacceptable, you can't prohibit linking to other pages... there is a spam filter, which forces you to enter a small captcha (simple calculation) if you post an external link, I recommend you use that instead. --Qubodup 18:37, 4 April 2008 (CDT)
