Real Name: Jim Perry
Age: born in 1966, figure it out :) (be glad I didn't use binary for the year :D)
Occupation: Programmer
Location: Abingdon, MD, USA
I've been programming since 1980. Some of the languages I've used (earliest to latest): COBOL, FORTRAN, Pascal, BASIC, C/C++, VB/VB.NET, C#
I was lucky enough to have spent 3 years in the game industry at BreakAway Games working on games that one might actually find on a shelf at a store. Some of the games I contributed to:
- Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom
- Waterloo: Napoleon's Last Battle
- Cleopatra
- Strat-O-Matic Football Check out the review here
although I'm not in the industry at this point, I'm still trying to create games. I've got several works in-progress that I'm hoping see the light of day. I'm also a moderator on several gaming forums which you might have heard of GameDev.net and IGDA as well as several VB forums.
I'm a fairly hard-core gamer, playing almost every genre. I've spent several years playing MMORPGs (EQ and DAoC), beta-testing several. My greatest interest is in RPGs, both single and multiplayer, so much so that I'm working on one in my spare time and have written a beginner's tutorial on creating them (find it here). If I'm not playing a PC game, I'm on my Xbox (gamertag Machaira - I have very few people on my friends list so I'll trade requests with almost anyone :D ). I get together with friends often to play LAN games of Halo2.
I'm married and the father of a precocious son who has been playing on the PC since he was 2. At 3 he was surfing the web and playing Xbox (although he's not quite ready for Halo yet! ;) ).
I'm the co-author of Essential XNA 2.0 Game Programming and am in the process of negotiating another game programming book deal.
