GDWiki:Ownership of articles

From GDWiki

Jump to: navigation, search
This page documents a proposed GDWiki policy. The policy is not yet in final form and is seeking further input on the talk page. Before editing this page, please make sure that your revision reflects consensus on the way the policy should be developed.
This page in a nutshell: If you create or edit an article, know that others will edit it, and within reason you should not prevent them from doing so.

The act of creating an article on the GDWiki does not confer upon the creator any particular rights with respect to the control of that article's content. Once contributed, that article is subject to the article content policies agreed upon by the GDWiki community. In short, if you do not want your material to be ruthlessly edited by other users, do not submit it to the wiki.

[edit] Ownership concerns

[edit] Qualification to edit

The perception of 'being qualified' to discuss the material presented in an article does not grant a user any more rights. Likewise, being 'unqualified' does not entail having less rights. All users have an equal right to edit all articles irrespective of their expertise in the subject (with the obvious exceptions of edits consisting entirely of inappropriate content, vandalism, et cetera). Disputes arising over factual content contained in an article should be discussed in a civil fashion (that means, 'attack the content not the contributer') on the article's talk page.

[edit] Signing

As articles are not considered 'owned' by any one user on the wiki, it is not appropriate to sign an article page. When posting on talk pages, however, you should sign your comments so that other users know who they are talking with.
