A soccer game to compete the Fifa's and PES brands?

I have an idea for a soccer game that would make the experience of soccer video game more in synch with the way we play it on the ground. especially the dribbling ( striding and running , and kicking the ball ). The idea is based on a simple observation and live experience ( and frustration on the playing on Fifa and PES) I dont think any one had thought of this yet (?) Is anyone interested to exchange and give me counsel on the feasibilityof such a game?

It's feasible. That is to say, such a game is certainly possible to make. But it's going to be difficult to market it successfully against the established brands.

Thanks,

for the feedback. I remember back in the '90s playing the Sensible Soccer franchise. It was quite popular among the Amiga community and it certainly influenced the two. Maybe not in the gameplay but with the veracity of the stadium atmospheres and the list of players and teams and national and continental competition…

What many like me also loved was the intuitive ball control ( passing, shooting, heading was all done with one A button. You couldn't just kick the ball and have it go forward if you was not in the proper position/direction…). Based on that I was thinking of “an innovation” to get to that same level of veracity and fun of the real game.

Not much focus on commercialisation at this stage if the idea is cool it should win many fans... I'm more of a soccer amateur that is frustrated to play a game too scripted "too mechanical" in its gameplay.

That's why I look to build a team that knows a little more than I do to see if we have something. I will come back and see if there are more people responding to this post, to share the main idea…

Thanks for the first response. I'm new to this, it is a good start.

Then this is moved. It's now in Hobby Project Classifieds, where team-building takes place here.

If you do decide to make it please make the players big enough to see. The one thing I hate about the current soccer games is all the players are always way too small. I get that you need to see the field but we are not using 15 inch monitors anymore.

Those sports genres basically use the same engine and rerelease the same game (i.e. Madden 2022, FIFA 2022) over and over again. Tough to compete against. You'd be like a new cola recipe competing with Coca Cola and Pepsi.

If you have a dribbling/shuffling gimmick that fundamentally changes the game, then the results could be different.

Agreed with the distinction. I wasn't going to comment but with the other replies it is worth it.

Hobby project? Great! Do your best! Be innovative! Learn and develop your talents. You might build some revolutionary new game experience.

But to compete with the existing products? Player names and likeness, team branding, all are licensed. Even if you mock the names in something you think is parody (it is not) licensing is still required. While individual statistics are available, collections must be licensed for commercial use. Make some exciting games all you want, and reach for the stars, but also keep in mind that entering the business world you will be required to follow the rules of business.

@Komatsu If someone made a first-person or third-person sports game, I think that would be cool. Third-person as in not the current popular god-view of the entire field. It'd also be more realistic in what you are able to see.

Alright!!!! Seems we have started a real conversation.

So let me layout the few idea and concept I envision for that game.

  • First off we can see, that either in FIFA or PES the dribbling are generated. the gamer just have to click-push combos to accomplish what are in reality difficult tricks on a pitch. Like the elastic, the spin, the step over, inside or reverse step ove 9 Even Cristiano failed at times to produce step overs)… All those are programmed and requires no instinctive creativity (+skill) from the gamer.
  • So I was thinking the first thing is to limit some of those skills/Tricks in the game. also because the defending gamer as no or little option to counter them.
  • The second observation is the positioning of players pushing, passing, kick-shooting the ball. Even though these games limits the angle from which those can be properly made, there were still this script/programmation that would allow to. Like for example accomplish a long pass without the proper balance or foot leap.

It's a long time since I played this games but I remember that it was just too easy to run with the ball, passing or shooting at will. maybe that has changed. But defending was basically a gamble when you faced gamers skilled with the finger. When to me the creativity + skill + control should be felt as if you was on the pitch…

The simple joy of being able to run dribble toward the opposing gaol or push dribble with the ball finding the right space ( a la Maradona) is the key of offensif plays. based on that I was asking myself if it was possible to create a game in which gamers had to control the run ( left right strides on the joystick to manoeuvre their player.

  • To run with or without the ball you have to push on the right and left trigger on the joystick. This will oblige the gammer to chose ( make a real decision) a direction were to play with the ball ( as you have to keep using the left or right foot) no help from programming. The defender in turn can and will have to decide were to close space or tackle for he will have to run using the same trigger buttons).
  • To kick, shoot or passing gamer would have to use the same action ( left right foot ) to decide where to aim the ball )
  • I was thinking with that system their wont be needing to use all buttons on the joystick.
  • R ( right foot) and L ( Left foot) triggers to stride/run. + (Optional CROSS BUTTON)
  • CROSS BUTTON ( Direction TOP to go straight forward - combine with LEFT or RIGHT trigger to choose run direction left or right.
  • A button (with long or short press) to pass and shoot. ( like on Sensible Soccer).
  • Defending is simple. L or R trigger to run + CROSS BUTTON, A button to steal the ball when close enough. with long Press to sliding tackle when too far.

So as you can see I'm a fantasist with no experience in game programming. So I dont know if this is possible to script the Left Right stride ( which is the key and main thing for a more controlled game ). Tell me what you think guys?

The two games that inspire me were SENSIBLE SOCCER and SUPER FORMATION SOCCER for its dribbling and space

Envision better and more contemporary design
